For my GCSE Design and Technology project I designed a modular speaker, lighting and storage system. The idea was that instead of balancing sound with dials for different audio levels, you could magnetically attach and detach the different speakers, which each had their own crossovers to access different ranges. i.e. to increase the bass you would physically place another woofer onto the system. It also had lighting and shelves for display purposes.
I designed the product fully on Fusion 360, including all 3D printed, metal and laser-cut parts; and also multiple custom-designed PCBs inside. On the outside of each module were a row of contacts, which created a system-wide network to control all the lights, sound and distribute power. The modules connected with magnets, but also had key slots for wall mounting. Parts like the amplifier, speaker drivers and LED controller were off-the-shelf components, but everything else would have been manufactured by myself at school, had it not been for the Pandemic which prevented my year group from doing the final manufacture.
